|
DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church * Austin, Texas
Employment Status: This is a full-time position, non-exempt, with benefits
Purpose: To provide leadership, mentorship, teaching, and support for the church’s ministry and mission to children - infant to fifth grade.
Characteristics and Qualifications: • A person of mature Christian faith and a passionate love for Jesus Christ • A person with gifts and passion for teaching children about God’s unfailing love • A solid working knowledge of Scripture and ability to teach Biblically-based curriculum • Evidence of service-oriented leadership, strong initiative, and clear administrative ability • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills • Maintains a vision/desire to nurture and expand the educational and discipleship opportunities to our children and their parents • Mature and gifted teacher • Facility with required computer software and necessary skills, e.g., MS Outlook, Word, Excel. • Bachelor’s Degree is required. Graduate degree in Christian Education or Children’s Education is preferred. Experience in the field is also desired.
Relationships: • Reports to Director of Discipleship • Director of Children’s Ministry works in close coordination and collaboration with Director of Discipleship, the Children’s Ministry representative from Session, and the Moderator of the Children’s Ministry Team • Director of Children’s Ministry works collaboratively with other staff and administrative personnel at WHPC. • Director of Children’s Ministry supervises and collaborates with the Assistant Director of Children’s Ministries and the Coordinator of Child Care and Sunday Preschool Ministries.
Responsibilities: • Provide leadership, and teaching in the ongoing discernment, oversight, and refinement of the Children’s Ministry Department • Plan, implement and supervise the following programs for children preschool to fifth grade o Sunday School o Wednesday Night Life Children’s Programming o Vacation Bible School o Mo Ranch Retreat • Recruit, inspire, mentor, and train volunteers and workers, coordinate curriculum and supplies, oversee the background check procedure, oversee Children’s Ministry budget, and supervise registration for the above programs • Provide leadership in the ongoing discernment and refinement of the vision for the Children’s Ministry • Work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor and the leadership of the Discipleship, Community, Mission, Worship, and Support Divisions toward an overall strategy of vision fulfillment as part of Program Staff of the church • Supervise the Assistant Director of Children’s Ministries and the Coordinator of Child Care and Sunday Preschool Ministries • Other duties as may be assigned consistent with the rationale for this position
Compensation and Benefits: • The annual salary of this position is commensurate with education and experience • Compensation package includes major medical, and death and disability. Pension after 3 years of full-time employment • Three weeks annual vacation
Evaluation: • Performance reviews will be conducted every year by the Director of Discipleship. The Personnel Committee will review the adequacy of compensation at least once each year. • This position is also responsible for conducting Performance Reviews for Children’s Ministry Staff once a year. |
