Mission is at the heart of theological education, and students
need to wrestle with the challenges that globalization and pluralism pose to the ecumenical
mission of the church. How can the church proclaim the good news of Gods reign
in a world of injustice, violence and oppression? And how can the church understand Gods
mission in ways that are faithful to Christian existence and open to learning from people
of other religious traditions? My teaching and research, shaped by more than twenty years
experience in Asia, are designed to help students address these questions, in the classroom,
through cross-cultural experiences and in dialogue with non-Western theologians whom
we regularly host on our campus.
