|Welcome Week 2013 - SFTS Celebrates Beginning of School Year|
Included in Welcome Week were the usual orientation-type activities to help new students thrive in their chosen academic programs: tours of both the SFTS and Graduate Theological Union libraries, obtaining student ID cards, learning how to register for classes, and meeting academic advisors. However, Welcome Week was much more than a New Student Orientation; it was a celebration of the enfolding of new and returning members of our community into a shared life. In line with Godís call into community, the Welcome Week team envisioned this week as an opportunity for the whole community to re-gather, and to attune a newly-comprised community to the rhythms of hospitality that San Francisco Theological Seminary strives to embody.
Therefore, a number of the events were social gatherings. The staff of SFTS hosted a Cookout on Monday following the grand reopening of Holy Grounds and the Community Fair, which featured area businesses, churches, and other community organizations. On Wednesday, students will trekked over to Berkeley to mingle with students of other GTU member schools, and on Friday afternoon, Bouick Field was the site of ďA Picnic, Kickball, & Other Shenanigans.Ē Welcome Week events closed on Saturday with a hike across Mt. Tamalpais to Stinson Beach, where a BBQ and cheering group was waiting.
Whether or not you were able to join us, we hope that each of our valued audiences enjoy the video and slideshow below as a way to share in the excitement, community, and fun of Welcome Week!
