Rev. Dr. James McDonald, president of San Francisco Theological Seminary, will lead 25 Marin County churches and organizations for the 18th annual Marin CROP Walk On Sunday, March 23, in San Rafael. The annual walk seeks to raise awareness of hunger related issues throughout the world.

The “CROP Walk,”which stands for “Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty,”is organized by Church World Service, a well-respected international aid and development organization. Every year, the CROP Walk is held in cities and communities around the world to raise funding and awareness to fight global hunger issues. In Marin County, the CROP Walk has been held annually since 1996, and is one of eleven hunger walks occurring in the Bay Area this spring.

This marks McDonald’s third year of serving as the honorary walk leader for the Marin CROP Hunger Walk. Leslie Purdy, the coordinator for the Marin CROP Walk said McDonald is an ideal leader because of his extensive background in working on hunger issues through his involvement with Bread for the World, an organization that fights on behalf of hungry people nationally and abroad.

This year’s Marin CROP Hunger Walk will begin at the First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael, 1510 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael. Registration begins at 1:30 pm and the walk will start at 2:00 pm, which will take a three mile route around downtown San Rafael. The event is open to everyone, and donations can be made in advance online at www.cropwalkonline.org/MarinCa, or in person on the day of the walk.

In addition to San Francisco Theological Seminary, sponsors of this year’s walk include Dentistry by Design of Marin, the Feinstein Foundation, Constantine Karsant, D.D.S., Dan and Dori Crawford, and Minuteman Press of Marin.
