The Department of Field Education and Integrative Studies at San Francisco Theological Seminary
holds at its core this belief: *“The place God calls you to is the place where your
deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” When potential M. Div students arrive at
SFTS, it is the intention of this office to assist them in finding that place. From the Introduction
to Ministry taught in the first year, through year long supervised internships culminating with
Senior Integrative Seminar, students experience a variety of invaluable first-hand, practical
applications of theoretical learnings.
FEIS
offers students a wide range of opportunities to ask three main questions:
- What is ministry?
- To what am I being called?
- How can we be the church of Jesus Christ together?
Through this office, students are encouraged to continue asking those vital questions while maintaining
a healthy relationship with their denominational committees. Discerning God’s call together, we
support students and serve as advisors and strategists in the call process. We seek to link students
with others who can also assist them in finding that place where their deep gladness and the world’s
hunger meet that will enable their continued journey toward following God’s call to service.
