Take 3 and See

What is seminary like? Can I handle it?

How can I rejuvenate my ministry?
What new approaches to the Bible can guide me as an individual, and also as a Christian leader in this rapidly-changing world?

What’s on the cutting edge of theological education? Mission and global economic justice? Multicultural Christian education?

If you have asked any of these questions, you might want to “Take 3 and See” what’s happening at SFTS.

SFTS is introducing this option for qualified students to take up to three 3-unit courses at 50% tuition without going through the whole application process.

Qualified students include:
• prospective students whose participation is endorsed by their church,
• ordained pastors, and
• SFTS alumni/ae.

Prospective Students
We’ve already received great interest in this program! Prospective students have told us they like the idea of finding out what seminary is like before making the life changes involved in a full-time commitment. They also love the fact that if, after completing “Take 3 and See”, they decide to enroll in a degree program with SFTS, the course credits will be counted towards graduation.

Continuing Ed Possibilities
Pastors and seminary alums can see how theological education has grown over the years, and get up-to-date scholarship in areas such as spirituality and the environment, Christian ethics and food production, new forms of biblical criticism, and pastoral counseling for multiple cultures.

This program also offers an exciting option to ministers interested in moving into the Presbyterian Church. Presbyterian “distinctives” such as Polity or Reformed Worship can be taken for credit at a much lower rate.

How to Begin
Those who are interested in taking a class through “Take 3 and See” should contact the Enrollment Office at either SFTS campus. We can help you choose from the list of available classes. You can download the Student Information Form here. Please remember that there is a lifetime limit of three classes. Auditing is offered for those who do not need the credits.

For academic year 2009-2010, 3-unit class tuition is normally $1,238. “Take 3 and See” tuition is $619, and the auditing fee is $350. Additional student activity fees in Northern California are waived unless you take 6 units or more or live on campus. Student activity fees in Southern California are $50 per semester, or $100 for full library privileges.
