Prospective Students

When God calls people to ministry, the response is often mixed. Consider the Biblical witness:  Moses thought no one would listen to him; Esther wasn’t sure she had the courage; Jeremiah felt he was too young; Mary questioned how God could make it happen; and Paul was—well, Paul was Paul (and Saul!).  And yet, God did extraordinary things through these men and women.  What can God do with you?

At San Francisco Theological Seminary, we have a bold vision for preparing leaders for Christ’s future church.  We have never settled for tradition for tradition’s sake, but we are not fooled into cutting off our roots to chase a trend.

SFTS is blessed with world-renowned faculty who are committed to student formation as well as cutting-edge scholarship. The great skills and accessibility of our faculty combine with an exceptionally diverse student body to create a wonderful learning community. The resources of SFTS are greatly magnified by our affiliation with the Graduate Theological Union, the largest partnership of seminaries and graduate theological schools in the country. With all these gifts, SFTS will prepare you for ministry with:

  • A solid academic foundation in biblical scholarship, theological studies, and practical arts and skills for ministry
  • Highly contextualized multicultural education, drawing on innovative programs and partnerships, and a diverse but close-knit faith learning community
  • Multiple opportunities to deepen your spiritual roots, through worship, music and the acclaimed Program in Christian Spirituality
  • Flexibility to tailor your studies to your particular sense of call, research interests, ordination requirements and even work/family situation, as you choose between our Northern or Southern California campuses.

With this approach, SFTS is uniquely qualified to offer you the spiritual, theological and practical roots that will enable you to grow as God calls.
